Overview
The Salvage Vehicle Specialist is responsible for managing, evaluating, and processing salvage vehicles from intake through final disposition. This role ensures accurate documentation, compliance with state regulations, and maximization of vehicle value through resale, parts recovery, or scrap.
Responsibilities
- Inspect and assess incoming salvage vehicles for condition, damage, and value.
- Determine appropriate disposition (repair, resale, parts, or scrap).
- Monitor aging inventory and initiate the 952 process on unclaimed vehicles after 30 days in accordance with company and state guidelines.
- Accurately document vehicle condition, VINs, and inventory details.
- Coordinate vehicle intake, storage, and yard organization.
- Prepare and submit all vehicle-related decisions for manager approval, ensuring adherence to company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Oversee and manage yard inventory by tracking all vehicles, verifying locations, and updating system records daily.
- Work with insurance companies, police departments, auctions, and internal departments.
- Process titles and ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Maintain a safe and organized work environment.
- Communicate status updates with management and team members.
- Abide by all Company policies and safety rules and assist in maintaining a clean, safe work environment/DOT regulations.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and take appropriate actions, recommend process changes and initiate improvements.
- Be a positive role model for all team members providing support and enthusiasm – creating a professional, positive work environment.
- Work additional hours in accordance with business needs and other demands of the position.
- Adheres to all Company’s procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma; vocational/technical school preferred.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Prior experience in automotive, towing, salvage, or collision industry preferred
- Strong knowledge of vehicle components and damage assessment
- Familiarity with salvage titles and insurance processes is a plus
- Ability to operate forklifts, loaders, or other yard equipment (preferred)
- Basic computer skills for inventory and documentation systems
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Be at least eighteen years of age.
- Pass a motor vehicle report and possess an acceptable safe driving record.
- Pass a criminal background check and drug screen.
Pay: $45,000.00 – $60,000.00 per year
