Role Overview

The Workshop Manager will provide strategic leadership and operational oversight for a fleet of approximately 500 vehicles. This senior role requires proven expertise in fleet maintenance, workshop management, and team leadership. The successful candidate will ensure optimal vehicle performance, compliance with safety standards, and cost-effective operations while driving continuous improvement across all workshop functions.

Key Responsibilities

– Fleet Maintenance & Operations

– Oversee maintenance, servicing, and repair of a fleet of 500 vehicles.

– Implement preventative maintenance schedules to minimise downtime.

– Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.

– Workshop Management

– Lead and manage workshop teams, including mechanics, technicians, and support staff.

– Establish and enforce operational policies, procedures, and quality standards.

– Monitor workshop performance metrics and drive efficiency improvements.

– Financial Oversight

– Manage budgets, cost control, and resource allocation for workshop operations.

– Negotiate with suppliers to secure parts and services at competitive rates.

– Conduct regular financial reporting and forecasting.

– Strategic Leadership

– Develop long-term strategies for fleet optimisation and lifecycle management.

– Introduce innovative solutions to improve reliability and reduce costs.

– Collaborate with senior management to align workshop operations with business goals.

– Team Development

– Recruit, train, and mentor workshop staff.

– Foster a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement.

– Conduct performance reviews and implement staff development plans.

Qualifications & Experience

– Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or related field (mandatory).

– Minimum 3-5 years of experience in fleet or workshop management, with large-scale operations.

– Proven track record in managing teams and overseeing complex vehicle fleets.

– Strong knowledge of automotive systems, diagnostics, and repair practices.

– Excellent leadership, communication, and negotiation skills.

– Ability to relocate permanently to Lusaka, Zambia.
