Role Description
Reporting to the Manager – Workshop Operations, the Workshop Controller is accountable for the overall performance of the workshop, with a strong focus on turnaround time, quality assurance, customer satisfaction, and revenue optimization
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Workshop Operations Management
• Supervise daily workshop operations; scheduling, workflow, resource allocation, and productivity tracking
• Monitor KPIs including job completion rates, technician utilization, and service bay optimization
• Ensure compliance with KEBS, NTSA, and manufacturer specifications
• Maintain workshop safety standards in line with OSHA Kenya regulations.
Policy & Procedure Adherence (Non-Negotiable)
• Enforce 100% compliance with all company policies, manufacturer procedures, and regulatory requirements
• Conduct daily compliance audits using standardized checklists and documentation protocols
• Implement a zero-tolerance policy for safety violations and procedural non-compliance
• Ensure complete traceability of all work performed with proper documentation and sign-offs
Turnaround Time Optimization (Critical Success Factor)
• Establish and monitor strict TAT timelines, ensuring promised delivery times are met 100%
• Implement real-time job tracking with hourly progress updates and bottleneck identification
• Maintain emergency fast-track lanes for urgent requirements with a 2-hour service guarantee
• Pre-order critical parts based on service forecasting to eliminate parts-related delays
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• Degree in Automotive Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field
• Trade certification from a recognized automotive training institution
• Valid driving licence; Class B minimum; Class C preferred
• Professional certifications from major automotive manufacturers are an added advantage
EXPERIENCE & COMPETENCIES
Experience
• 5–7 years of progressive experience in automotive workshop operations (MANDATORY)
• Minimum 3 years in a supervisory or management role within an automotive service environment
• Demonstrated proficiency with modern diagnostic equipment and automotive technologies
• Proven track record of achieving operational and financial targets
