Test Engineer – HIL Test Bench (ECU Validation, Diagnostics & Flashing) Jobs in Győr, Győr-Moson-Sopron, Hungary at Mare Strategy Engineering and Technology
Title: Test Engineer – HIL Test Bench (ECU Validation, Diagnostics & Flashing)
Company: Mare Strategy Engineering and Technology
Location: Győr, Győr-Moson-Sopron, Hungary
We are seeking a Test Engineer to operate and execute Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) test bench activities for automotive ECUs. You will plan and execute verification aligned to the (VR) release plan, perform ECU flashing and diagnostics, run manual/semi-automatic/automatic test cases, and deliver clear, release-ready test results.
Responsibilities
- Execute HIL test campaigns aligned with the VR release plan: scope tracking, daily execution, risk communication, and release evidence delivery.
- Prepare and maintain the HIL execution environment (bench bring-up checks, connectivity verification, stable logging, repeatable reruns).
- Perform ECU flashing and software loading using project-approved tooling (e.g., ODIS).
- Conduct ECU diagnostics (session handling, DTC read/clear, routine checks) and validate expected diagnostic behavior.
- Execute test cases across modes:
- Automated (scripted regression)
- Semi-automatic (guided steps with automated checks/logging)
- Manual (exploratory, bring-up, reproduction)
- Analyze logs/traces, identify anomalies, and produce an evidence pack (repro steps, expected vs actual, logs, and summary).
- Create and maintain test specifications/test cases derived from requirements; contribute to traceability and test coverage reporting.
- Collaborate with development, systems, and test management to debug issues and drive retest/regression closure.
Required Qualifications
- Degree in Electrical/Electronics/Mechatronics/Computer Engineering (or equivalent practical experience).
- Experience operating HIL test benches and executing ECU validation in an automotive context.
- Hands-on experience with Vector CANoe and CANape in test/validation workflows.
- Hands-on experience with ODIS (or equivalent OEM diagnostic tooling) for diagnostics and/or flashing activities.
- Strong understanding of automotive communication fundamentals (CAN; familiarity with LIN/FlexRay/Ethernet/DoIP is a plus).
- Proven ability to write clear test results and defect reports (reproducible, evidence-based).
Preferred Qualifications
- Test automation scripting (CAPL and/or Python).
- Experience with a dSPACE-based HIL ecosystem (e.g., ControlDesk / AutomationDesk / related tooling).
- Familiarity with test specification standards and structured testing approaches.
- ISTQB certification (Foundation Level or higher).
- Experience supporting release readiness gates and test sign-off recommendations.
Tools / Technologies
- HIL environment: dSPACE ecosystem (HIL bench operation, automation/instrumentation tooling)
- Bus & validation: Vector CANoe, CANape
- Diagnostics & flashing: ODIS (VW Group) and ECU flashing workflows
- Test modes: automated, semi-automatic, manual execution
- Optional/bonus: CAPL, Python, CI-friendly test execution, requirements/test management integrations
Soft Skills
- Ownership mindset and strong execution discipline under deadline pressure.
- Clear communication: concise daily status, risk escalation, and release evidence summaries.
- Analytical problem-solving and structured debugging approach.
- Collaboration across test, systems, and development teams.
