Overview

Shop Manager – Fleet & Equipment Jobs in Bluffton, IN at One Degree Agriculture

We are seeking an operational Shop Manager to lead shop workflow and maintain fleet reliability across our combined businesses. Our multi-faceted enterprise relies on a dependable, highly active fleet ranging from commercial semi-tractors, hopper bottoms, and dry bulk trailers to ag tenders, seed/precision equipment, and farm machinery.

This is a split role that balances shop leadership with active, hands-on support. You will set maintenance priorities, keep our trucks and field machinery compliant and road-ready, handle seasonal crunch windows (planting and harvest), wrench alongside the team, and lead a dedicated mechanic crew.

Note: The shop focus is preventive care, safety inspections, routine wear-and-tear, diagnostics, trailer welding/fabrication, and tire service. Heavy engine tear-downs etc are typically outsourced so the shop stays focused on overall fleet uptime.

Key Responsibilities

  • Shop Leadership & Workflow: Direct and prioritize all incoming routine servicing, preventive maintenance, and repair work across semi-trucks, trailers, tenders, and field equipment.
  • Hands-on Shop Support: Work alongside shop mechanics assisting with diagnostics, general mechanical repairs, changing tires, and light fabrication as needed.
  • Seasonal & Breakdown Management: Maintain a flexible schedule driven by operational workload, staying available for on-call breakdown support and keeping critical haulers/machinery running during busy seasons
  • Team Leadership & Culture: Supervise, mentor, and work directly with shop mechanics. Build a positive, cooperative, low-drama environment grounded in teamwork and accountability.
  • Field Communication: Serve as the primary bridge between truck drivers, farm operators, precision/seed reps, and leadership regarding shop schedules and repair turnaround times.
  • Parts & Yard Coordination: Keep common wear parts in stock, maintain an organized shop workspace, and maneuver equipment/semis around the yard as needed.

Qualifications & Background

  • Experience: Minimum 5+ years of hands-on mechanical, maintenance, and shop leadership/supervisory experience with semi-trucks, trailers, heavy equipment, or agricultural machinery.
  • Practical Mechanical Aptitude: Solid experience with semi-trucks, trailers, 12V electrical systems, basic hydraulics, and general farm machinery diagnostics and repair.
  • Leadership & Interpersonal Savvy: Strong communication skills. Able to build good working relationships with truck drivers, farm hands, and technicians while maintaining shop morale.
  • Flexibility & Problem-Solving: Ability to adapt schedule to seasonal workloads and provide emergency breakdown support when needed.
  • Yard Driving Capability: Comfortable moving semi-trucks, trailers, and machinery around the shop yard (Class A CDL is not required).
  • Work Ethic: Teachable, pragmatic, and takes pride in keeping a multi-business fleet running smoothly without micromanagement.

Why Join the Yoder Team?

  • Internal Fleet Focus: Servicing our own operational equipment means no retail customers or chasing billable flat-rate hours.
  • Established Enterprise: Direct oversight across a diversified business spanning grain logistics, agronomy/precision ag, and crop farming.
  • Direct Impact: Build the shop culture, influence future mechanic hires, and streamline daily workflow.

Pay: $100,000.00 – $125,000.00 per year
