Our client is a global Tier 1 in the manufacturing industry and is looking for a Project Manager in Detroit area.

The Project Manager is responsible for leading cross-functional teams to successfully launch and manage automotive programs from concept through production. This role ensures projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with customer, quality, and regulatory requirements. The position requires strong coordination with engineering, operations, quality, supply chain, and customers (OEMs).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead end-to-end project management for new product launches (NPI), engineering changes, and serial production improvements.
  • Develop and maintain detailed project plans, timelines, budgets, and risk assessments.
  • Act as the primary interface with OEM customers for program status, milestones, and issue resolution.
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams (engineering, manufacturing, quality, purchasing, logistics) to achieve program objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with automotive standards such as IATF 16949, APQP, PPAP, and customer-specific requirements.
  • Monitor project performance using KPIs (cost, timing, quality) and implement corrective actions when needed.
  • Manage program financials including cost tracking, forecasting, and profitability targets.
  • Identify risks and implement mitigation strategies to ensure successful program delivery.
  • Lead program reviews and report status to senior management.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and lessons learned for future programs.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • 5–10 years of experience in project management within the automotive industry, preferably Tier 1 supplier environment.
  • Strong knowledge of automotive launch processes (APQP, PPAP, FMEA, control plans).
  • Proven experience managing OEM customer relationships (e.g., GM, Ford, Stellantis, etc.).
  • Proficiency in project management tools and ERP systems.
  • PMP certification is a plus.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven manufacturing environment.
