Product Development Engineer Jobs in Hanoi Capital Region at TBP Auto
Title: Product Development Engineer
Company: TBP Auto
Location: Hanoi Capital Region
Company Description
TBP Auto is Vietnam's largest brake drum manufacturer, producing high-quality brake drums for medium and heavy-duty commercial vehicles. Beyond our core product, we are expanding into adjacent wheel-end and brake components and developing new products for aftermarket distributors and fleet operators across the U.S. and international markets.
Role Description
Based in our Hanoi office, the Product Development Engineer is the technical backbone of TBP's commercial team. You own the engineering behind every new product we develop — reading the drawing, understanding the engineering, and judging whether and how it can be made to spec. You lead products from concept and reverse engineering through sample approval, and act as the technical bridge between our international customers and our manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead new product development and introduction, from concept and reverse engineering through sample approval and production readiness.
- Interpret customer drawings, specifications, and RFQs, and own the technical side of RFQ responses (dimensions, materials, standards, acceptance criteria).
- Assess manufacturing feasibility for new and adjacent products and advise the commercial team on what TBP can realistically deliver.
- Prepare and review 2D/3D CAD models and drawings; perform tolerance and GD&T analysis.
- Technically vet potential suppliers, reviewing process capability, quality systems, and samples.
- Review first-article and production samples against drawings and standards, and drive resolution of nonconformances.
- Travel to Thai BInh factory 1-2 days per week.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Automotive Engineering, or a related field.
- 5+ years in automotive component engineering, manufacturing, or technical sourcing/supplier development.
- Strong drawing literacy: fluent in 2D/3D CAD, GD&T, and tolerance analysis.
- Broad materials and process knowledge beyond a single product family (cast iron, machining, and general forming/forging/fabrication).
- Working knowledge of automotive quality tools (APQP, PPAP, PFMEA, Control Plan).
- Preferred: Strong English — comfortable dealing directly with international customers and technical documents.
- Preferred: experience with brake/wheel-end components, reverse engineering (CMM/3D scanning), supplier development, and familiarity with SAE/FMVSS standards.
