Position Summary

Perform restoration procedures on all body parts of automotive vehicles including trucks, trolleys and buses; install glass, paint and perform a variety of other restoration activities and perform a variety of other related activities in support of the maintenance and restoration of City vehicles.

This is a safety sensitive position subject to random drug/alcohol testing.

Essential And Supplemental Functions

SSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Essential functions may include, but are not limited to thefunctions listed below. Must be able to perform the essential functions of thejob with or without a reasonable accommodation.

  • Restore all body parts of automotive vehicles including trucks, paratransit and buses.
  • Examine damaged vehicles and estimate cost of repairs.
  • Remove excessively damaged body parts including fenders, windows, panels and grills; install and paint new replacement parts.
  • Straighten bent vehicle frames, repair body dents and holes, and remove old paint from specified area using appropriate tools and equipment.
  • Prepare for an paint vehicles; cover areas not intended for paint with masking tape; mix a variety of paints to achieve desired color; apply vehicle body fillers and primers as appropriate; spray paint vehicles in appropriate manner.
  • Repair and refurbish vehicle interior including seat upholstery, flooring and interior panels.
  • Fabricate metal panels as necessary; perform both metal and plastic welding as necessary.

SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS:

  • May perform minor electrical work when appropriate.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required.

Minimum Education, Experience And Additional Requirements

Education directly related to the minimum requirements below may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

High school diploma or GED plus a two (2) year technical certificate or training in automotive repair; and

Two (2) years of vehicle restoration experience.

Additional Requirements

Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver’s License, or the ability to obtain by date of hire.

Possession of a valid City Operator’s Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire.

Possession of a valid New Mexico Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A within six (6) months from date of hire.

Possession of an AC recovery and CNG fuel certificate within six (6) months from date of hire.

Working Conditions

Environmental

Shop environment; working within confined spaces; with exposure to excessive noise, dust and solvents.

Physical

Essential and supplemental functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for walking, standing, sitting kneeling and repeated bending for prolonged periods of time.
