Role Description The MOT Tester and Technician role is a full-time, on-site position based in Greater Nottingham. The role involves carrying out MOT tests in line with DVSA regulations, performing routine servicing, diagnostic checks, and mechanical repairs across a wide range of vehicle makes and models. Daily tasks include inspecting vehicle components such as brakes, tyres, suspension, and exhaust systems, identifying faults, and completing repairs or replacements to a high standard. The MOT Tester and Technician will also be responsible for maintaining accurate records, ensuring compliance with safety and legal requirements, and communicating clearly with customers about findings and recommended work. The role includes working closely with the autocentre team to support a safe, efficient workshop environment and deliver a transparent, customer-focused service experience.
Qualifications
- Valid MOT Tester qualification and current DVSA license, with practical experience conducting MOT tests.
- Vocational automotive qualification (e.g., NVQ/City & Guilds Level 2 or 3 in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair) or equivalent experience in a technician role.
- Strong mechanical skills in vehicle diagnostics, servicing, and repair across key systems such as brakes, tyres, suspension, exhaust, and air conditioning.
- Ability to follow regulatory and safety standards, including DVSA guidelines, health and safety procedures, and quality control processes.
- Clear, professional communication skills for interacting with customers and colleagues, including the ability to explain technical issues in accessible terms.
- Good time-management and organization skills to handle multiple jobs, maintain accurate documentation, and meet service deadlines.
- Comfort working in a fast-paced workshop environment, with a focus on teamwork, reliability, and attention to detail.
- Full UK driving licence and flexibility to work within standard autocentre opening hours, including Saturdays.
