Designs and develops molds for the manufacturing of connectors. Plans and manages the manufacturing process of the designed molds, ensuring compliance with product specifications and costumer needs in an efficient and cost-effective manner by applying Lean Manufacturing principles

Our Team

The Molding Engineer role has a direct impact on the development of new businesses through the design and creation of molds for new products, being responsible for the basic and detailed design phase to the manufacturing of molds for connectors and housings. They work daily with the Product Development, New Product Introduction, and Production teams to evaluate, design, and execute the development of new products, while adhering to the SQPC (Safety, Quality, Production, and Cost) policies and systems

What You Will Do

  • Define a cost-effective and robust process flow with accurate manufacturing costs for all Requests for Quotations (RFQs) related to the design and manufacturing of molds, based on the type of connector/housing and its application
  • Work on the availability, control and administration of the engineering/documentation of the molds
  • Work on effective Molding Manufacturing Feasibility studies along with core team as per the criteria
  • Trouble shooting issues in scientific approach with the use engineering tools, scientific molding approach, Tolerance Analysis, SPC, DOE and Six Sigma techniques
  • Active role in driving the improvement of productivity and quality of molding and tooling techniques, Overall process design suggestions based on mold technology
  • Execute Design Reviews and conduct thorough Design for Manufacture feasibility to mitigate all the design related concerns and PFMEA reviews of all the Molding parts and address all the potential failures, suggest/ implement the corrective actions wherever economically feasible
  • Execute the Mold development by coordinating with internal development team, Derive the tooling requirement including controls, Poka-Yoke and cycle time and communicate effectively to internal Tooling development team
  • Drive the Project plan for each part numbers and review with team frequently, obtain management support whenever the Project timelines are critical or the relevant department's support is not sufficient
  • Ensure new product development process meets PDP process requirement for each stage, drive corrective actions and preventive actions for all Mold process related concerns, Interaction with the various engineering centers of Molex for getting necessary information required for developing the product/process
  • Understand, support and contribute to current MBM Philosophy, Six Sigma, EICC, ISO, IAFT and Environmental, and/or Health and Safety (EH&S) Management Systems by following stated policies and procedures
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by management

Who You Are

  • Diploma/Bachelor / master’s in engineering, Plastics Technology, Polymer Science
  • 3 years of experience in mold design and development
  • Advanced English
  • Knowledge in the molding process and troubleshooting in the molding area
  • Knowledge in mold construction and DFMEA / DFM /MFA
  • Knowledge of practices, terminology, and tolerances associated with fabrication, machining, grinding, wire EDM, and molding
  • Technical experience in thermoplastic injection molding related to Design for Moldability, thermoplastic processing
  • Solid understanding of mold parameter setup
  • 3D modeling, mold design

What Will Put You Ahead

  • 6 years or more of experience in mold design and development
  • Knowledge of the connector manufacturing process will be an additional advantage.
  • Robotics, automation, and hot runner system
