SUMMARY:
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer, with strong truck trailer and heavy vehicle design experience, to join our engineering team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, development, and improvement of truck trailers, trailer components, and related mechanical systems from concept through to manufacturing.
POSITION INFO:
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop truck trailers and trailer components using 3D CAD software.
- Prepare detailed manufacturing drawings, BOMs, and assembly documentation.
- Perform structural and mechanical design calculations.
- Support production teams during manufacturing and assembly processes.
- Conduct design reviews, fault finding, and engineering improvements.
- Ensure compliance with South African road transport regulations and industry standards.
- Liaise with suppliers, production teams, and project managers.
- Participate in prototype development, testing, and validation.
Minimum Requirements:
- BEng / BTech / National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
- 3–5 years’ experience in truck trailer or heavy vehicle design.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor, or similar CAD software.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, welding, and sheet metal fabrication.
- Experience with FEA analysis and structural design advantageous.
- Knowledge of trailer regulations and automotive standards.
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
- Valid driver’s license.
