Role Description

The Junior Risk Officer is a full-time role based in Ta' Xbiex, Malta, with the flexibility of a hybrid work model. The selected candidate will assist in managing the organization's risk frameworks, monitor market and enterprise risks, evaluate compliance with regulatory requirements, and analyze financial data to support risk-based decision-making. This role involves collaboration with internal teams and external stakeholders to implement effective risk management practices while contributing to the overall objectives of the company.

Role requirements

  • Support the Risk Officer in maintaining accurate and up‑to‑date risk registers for each company, including risk identification, descriptions, assessments, ownership, and inherent and residual risk ratings.
  • Assist in ensuring ongoing compliance with Solvency II Pillar 2, contributing to a sound and effective Risk Management System.
  • Support the identification, monitoring, and assessment of all relevant risk types, particularly those related to Motor and Breakdown Insurance activities.
  • Perform scenario and impact analyses in collaboration with risk owners to assess potential risk exposures.
  • Contribute to initiatives aimed at reducing and mitigating overall risk across the companies.
  • Assist with the quarterly monitoring of second‑line controls, including the preparation of observations and recommendations where required.
  • Support the preparation of materials and presentations for the Risk Management Committee and Solvency II reporting.
  • Assist in the coordination and preparation of the Own Risk and Solvency Assessment (ORSA).
  • Support the monitoring of the Company’s Risk Appetite Framework, including data input and follow‑up with risk owners.
  • Assist in organising and preparing the Annual Directors’ Risk Workshop, in support of the ORSA process.
  • Support the Risk Officer in monitoring and responding to regulatory and supervisory developments.

Qualifications & Experience

  • A minimum of 1 year’s experience in a similar role is required.
  • Previous exposure to risk management would be considered an asset.
  • An insurance and/or risk‑related academic or professional background will be viewed as an advantage.
  • Strong organisational skills with a high level of motivation and attention to detail.
  • A dynamic yet mature professional profile, demonstrating a proactive and “make‑it‑happen” mindset.
  • Languages: Fluent in English; knowledge of another European language, particularly French, is a plus.
