Position Summary:
The Interior Cabin Lighting Design Engineer will be responsible for the concept, layout, and detailed design of interior lighting components for a Japanese automotive OEM. The role requires strong CATIA V6 skills, feasibility evaluation, collaboration with cross‑functional teams, and coordination with suppliers to ensure high-quality, manufacturable, and customer‑aligned lighting solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Interior Lighting Component Design (CATIA V6)
- Develop Lamp Layout (L/O) and 3D models for interior lighting components such as:
Ambient Mood lights, Roof and Map lamps, Door Trim lighting
Console and IP illumination components
- Prepare and release 2D drawings and design documentation as per OEM standards using CATIA V6.
- Conduct packaging studies considering ergonomics, styling intent, electrical constraints, and safety norms.
- Perform feasibility studies to analyze manufacturability, assembly process, and integration with interior trim parts.
2. Technical Coordination
- Work closely with: Interior Trim Engineering, Electrical and Illumination System teams
- Optical and lighting module experts and Validation/Testing teams
- Coordinate with Japanese OEM counterparts to align on design standards, change requests, design freeze milestones, and quality expectations.
- Collaborate with suppliers for DFM, tooling feasibility, cost optimization, and timeline tracking.
3. Design Validation Support
- Participate in the preparation and review of DV/PV plans for interior lighting components.
- Support root cause analysis and corrective action for design-related issues identified during testing.
- Incorporate test feedback into design improvements to meet functional and regulatory expectations.
4. Documentation & Release Activities
- Prepare engineering documents such as:
1. BOM management, Engineering Change Requests (ECR/ECN)
2. Technical reports and supplier interface documents like RFI, RFQ.
- Follow PLM processes for model and drawing release in CATIA V6/ENOVIA (or equivalent).
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Automotive, or related engineering field.
- Hands-on expertise in CATIA V6 (3D modelling, L/O, and 2D drafting).
- Good understanding of automotive interior lighting components and integration.
- Strong knowledge of DFM/DFA, GD&T, and plastic design fundamentals.
- Experience working with suppliers and cross-functional engineering teams.
- Ability to communicate effectively with Japanese OEM teams (Japanese language skills needed, N2 and above preferred).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in developing interior lighting products (Tier‑1 or OEM level).
- Knowledge of optical behaviour and illumination design basics.
- Familiarity with Japanese OEM development processes and design review cycles.
- Understanding of global automotive lighting regulations (JIS/ECE/SAE).
