Position Overview
The Lead Diesel Mechanic will supervise the maintenance team and handle complex diagnostics and repairs on diesel trucks, chassis, and trailers. This role requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and the ability to prioritize workflow to keep our fleet safe and compliant.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee mechanics and shop operations
- Diagnose, inspect, and repair diesel engines, trailers, and chassis
- Conduct and oversee B.I.T. inspections
- Manage preventive maintenance schedules and repair records
- Ensure compliance with OSHA and company safety standards
- Train, mentor, and guide team mechanics
- Communicate repair needs and status with dispatch and management
- Perform welding, electrical, brake, tire, and airline repairs as needed
Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum 5 years in diesel repair; 2+ years in a lead or supervisory role
- License: Valid driver’s license required (CDL preferred)
- Skills:
- Advanced diagnostic and troubleshooting ability
- Proficiency in diesel, electrical, and hydraulic systems
- Welding and fabrication experience
- Strong organizational and leadership skills
- Forklift operation required; top handler/top loader experience a plus
- Education: High school diploma or GED required; ASE certification preferred
Physical Requirements
- Lift/carry up to 65 lbs
- Stand, kneel, or crawl for extended periods
- Perform visual and manual inspections
Schedule
- Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM
- Weekends as needed
