Position Summary:
The Fleet Service Technician is responsible for performing maintenance, repairs, and inspections on BGC’s fleet of vehicles and equipment to ensure operational readiness and safety. This role supports field operations by maintaining reliable and efficient fleet performance.
Essential Functions:
- Perform routine maintenance, servicing, lubrication, and scheduled inspections on all BGC fleet vehicles and equipment, including diesel and gasoline systems, bucket trucks, pickups, vans, tractors, and heavy machinery, to ensure safe and reliable operation.
- Conduct both workshop based and field based repairs, including on-site troubleshooting at job locations, laydown yards, and roadside environments, to support continuous fleet operations.
- Carry out preventive and corrective maintenance to reduce equipment failures, improve reliability, and minimize downtime impacting field operations.
- Maintain accurate service records, repair logs, inspection reports, and maintenance histories for all fleet assets in line with BGC compliance and audit standards.
- Ensure all vehicles and equipment meet safety, operational readiness, and regulatory compliance requirements before release for deployment.
- Respond to emergency breakdowns and urgent repair requests, including roadside assistance, to restore operational capability for critical utility services.
- Support scheduled inspections, safety checks, and condition assessments, providing detailed findings to the Fleet Supervisor.
- Assist in diagnosing root causes of recurring mechanical or electrical issues and support implementation of long term corrective actions.
- Maintain workshop tools, diagnostic equipment, and work areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition per BGC Environmental, Health & Safety standards.
- Monitor usage of spare parts, consumables, and materials, and report shortages or reordering needs to the Fleet Supervisor or Inventory Control Coordinator.
- Ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of fuels, lubricants, chemicals, and maintenance materials in line with environmental and safety regulations.
- Support installation, servicing, and testing of vehicle-mounted equipment such as GPS units, communication systems, and utility specific tools.
- Collaborate with the Fleet Supervisor and maintenance team to complete scheduled work and maintain fleet operational readiness.
- Adhere strictly to all BGC safety policies, procedures, and PPE requirements at all times.
- Participate in call out rotations or emergency response assignments as needed to support restoration and utility operations.
- Identify, report, and escalate safety hazards, mechanical defects, or operational risks promptly to prevent service disruptions or accidents.
Other Requirements:
- Ability to work flexible hours for events or urgent communication needs.
- Valid driver’s license required; CDL Class B (or ability to obtain within a defined period) required
Physical Demands:
- Frequent lifting, bending, and physical labor.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Work Environment:
- Workshop, garage, and field environments.
- Exposure to mechanical equipment, tools, and outdoor conditions.
Qualifications:
- Technical certification in Automotive or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent experience).
- Experience working on both diesel and gasoline-powered vehicles and equipment, including diagnostics, repair, and maintenance
- 2 – 5 years of experience in vehicle maintenance or mechanical repair.
- Experience working with heavy-duty or utility vehicles is an asset.
