We are seeking an experienced, visionary, and results-driven Service Director to lead our award-winning Fixed Operations team. This executive leadership role is responsible for the strategic direction, operational excellence, and financial performance of the dealership’s Service Department, including the Service Drive, Main Shop, Quick Lane, Warranty Administration, and Fixed Operations support staff. The ideal candidate is a proven automotive leader passionate about developing high-performing teams, delivering exceptional customer experiences, driving profitability, and fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Operations
- Provide strategic leadership and oversight for all service department operations, including the Main Shop, Quick Lane, Service Drive, Warranty Administration, Dispatch, and Fixed Operations support staff.
- Develop and execute strategic plans to achieve departmental goals related to profitability, operational efficiency, customer satisfaction, and long-term growth.
- Establish annual, quarterly, and monthly business objectives and monitor progress toward departmental goals.
- Ensure operational consistency, workflow optimization, and continuous process improvement across all service operations.
Financial Performance & Business Growth
- Drive department profitability by monitoring labor sales, gross profit, effective labor rate (ELR), repair order averages, technician productivity, efficiency, proficiency, and customer retention.
- Develop and manage departmental budgets while implementing cost-control initiatives.
- Analyze financial statements, operational reports, and key performance metrics to identify opportunities for growth and improved performance.
- Partner with executive leadership to develop strategies that increase revenue and improve operational performance.
Leadership & Talent Development
- Lead, mentor, coach, and develop Service Managers, Shop Managers, Service Advisors, Warranty Administrators, Dispatchers, Technicians, and support staff.
- Recruit, hire, onboard, and retain high-performing employees.
- Conduct regular leadership meetings, coaching sessions, and performance evaluations.
- Build succession plans and leadership development opportunities within the department.
- Foster a culture centered on accountability, teamwork, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
Customer Experience
- Maintain Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI) performance at or above Ford Motor Company and dealership expectations.
- Handle escalated customer concerns with professionalism and urgency.
- Develop initiatives that improve customer loyalty, retention, and the overall ownership experience.
- Promote a customer-first culture throughout every area of the service department.
Operational Excellence
- Ensure compliance with Ford Motor Company policies, warranty requirements, service procedures, and technical standards.
- Oversee warranty administration to ensure accurate claim processing and reimbursement.
- Monitor repair quality, comeback rates, technician productivity, and shop efficiency.
- Maintain appropriate staffing levels and effective workflow throughout the department.
- Partner closely with the Parts Department to maximize inventory availability and repair efficiency.
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, hazardous-waste-disposal regulations, environmental standards, and all applicable federal, state, and local laws.
- Maintain a clean, organized, safe, and professional service facility.
- Oversee maintenance of dealership equipment, shop tools, and service department facilities.
- Maintain strong relationships with Ford Motor Company representatives, vendors, fleet accounts, and community partners.
- Attend manufacturer meetings, leadership development programs, and executive management meetings.
- Perform additional leadership responsibilities and strategic initiatives as assigned by executive management.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Automotive Management, or a related field preferred; equivalent leadership experience will be considered.
- Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive automotive fixed operations leadership experience, with multi-department management preferred.
- Proven success leading high-volume service operations with demonstrated profitability and CSI performance.
- Strong understanding of Ford Motor Company standards, warranty administration, and fixed operations best practices preferred.
- Exceptional leadership, coaching, communication, and organizational skills.
- Strong financial acumen with experience managing budgets, forecasting, and performance metrics.
- Experience in interpreting dealership financial statements and operational reports.
- Excellent conflict resolution and customer relationship management skills.
- Proficiency with dealership management systems (DMS), reporting platforms, and Microsoft Office.
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
Working Conditions
- Combination of office, customer-facing, and dealership service department environments.
- Frequent interaction with customers, employees, manufacturers, and vendors.
- Regular walking throughout service operations, including shop and Quick Lane facilities.
- Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds.
- Flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and extended hours as business needs require.
