Location: Allentown, PA

Director of Operations & Testing

Build the Operational, Demo, and Testing Backbone of 4MP

On Site · Allentown / Bethlehem, PA Area · Seed Stage

About 4MP

At 4MP, we are building a new technological foundation for precision manufacturing.

Our platform enables CNC machines to self-measure, self-correct, and continuously improve — transforming conventional machine tools into autonomous precision systems.

4MP is backed by a prestigious institutional investor and is fully funded at the Seed stage. We are now moving from early technical development into structured facility build-out, testing, demonstration, and validation.

We are currently in the process of selecting and establishing our first facility in the Allentown / Bethlehem area. This facility will become the center of 4MP’s operations, demonstrations, R&D testing, and technology validation.

The Mission

We are seeking a hands-on Director of Operations & Testing who can build and run the physical, operational, and testing foundation of 4MP.

This person will lead the setup of our facility, equipment, test environment, demo capabilities, and operating systems. They will work directly with the founding team to establish the environment where 4MP can develop, test, validate, and demonstrate its technology with speed and discipline.

This is not a traditional operations role.

This is a builder role for someone who can turn technical ambition into an operationally functioning reality.

What You Will Build

  • 4MP’s first operational facility in the Allentown / Bethlehem area
  • Lab, workshop, demo, and testing environments
  • CNC machine, metrology, tooling, and supporting equipment infrastructure
  • Testing workflows for hardware, software, machining, and system validation
  • Demo capabilities for investors, partners, customers, and technical stakeholders
  • Supplier, vendor, service, and facility partner ecosystem
  • Equipment readiness, maintenance, calibration, and uptime processes
  • Inventory, tooling, spare parts, and consumables systems
  • Safety, compliance, documentation, and operating procedures
  • A scalable operating foundation for future R&D and product growth

Role Nature: Founding Operations & Testing Leadership

This is a founding-level leadership role combining strategic ownership with daily hands-on execution.

You will be directly involved in facility selection, facility setup, equipment sourcing, installation, testing readiness, vendor coordination, operational troubleshooting, and team building.

You will work closely with the software development team to make sure the physical testing environment supports fast iteration, reliable data collection, and meaningful validation of 4MP’s technology.

You will also help build and lead the team responsible for testing, demo execution, machine readiness, technical operations, and day-to-day support of engineering activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the facility search, setup, and operational readiness process in the Allentown / Bethlehem area
  • Define and build the physical infrastructure required for testing, demos, R&D, and prototype validation
  • Source, coordinate, and manage CNC machines, metrology equipment, tooling, fixtures, and supporting systems
  • Build the operational workflows needed for fast and repeatable testing cycles
  • Establish demo environments that clearly show 4MP’s technical capabilities
  • Work closely with software, AI, engineering, and leadership teams to align test infrastructure with product development needs
  • Coordinate equipment delivery, installation, calibration, service, maintenance, and uptime
  • Build and manage relationships with facility vendors, equipment suppliers, machine shops, service providers, and technical partners
  • Create systems for inventory, spare parts, tooling, consumables, and technical documentation
  • Help recruit, organize, and lead the team responsible for operations, testing, and demo execution
  • Manage timelines, dependencies, budgets, and execution plans across facility, equipment, and testing workstreams
  • Ensure the facility is safe, organized, compliant, and ready to support rapid engineering execution
  • Bring structure, urgency, and discipline to a fast-moving technical environment

Who You Are

You are a hands-on builder who knows how to make technical environments work.

You are comfortable in a facility, on a shop floor, around machines, and in technical discussions with engineers. You can manage vendors, organize projects, solve problems quickly, and bring order to complex execution.

You do not need everything fully defined before you act. You are comfortable operating in a startup environment where the playbook is still being written.

You are equally comfortable discussing machining, equipment readiness, test plans, facility constraints, budgets, vendors, and project timelines.

What We Require

  • 10+ years of experience in operations, manufacturing, technical project management, R&D environments, testing, machine tools, robotics, machinery, or industrial systems
  • Strong experience building, running, or supporting technical facilities, labs, workshops, machine environments, or R&D spaces
  • Practical understanding of machining, CNC equipment, metrology, tooling, fixtures, or industrial equipment
  • Experience coordinating testing, validation, prototype development, or technical demonstration environments
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple technical workstreams at once
  • Experience working with vendors, suppliers, contractors, equipment providers, and service partners
  • Ability to support equipment sourcing, installation, calibration, maintenance, and readiness
  • Strong organizational, documentation, budgeting, and execution discipline
  • Comfort working across office, lab, shop-floor, and technical environments
  • Ability to work closely with software and engineering teams in a fast-moving development environment

Will Set You Apart

  • Strong machining background, especially CNC machining, precision manufacturing, tooling, fixtures, or metrology
  • Experience in R&D testing, prototype validation, advanced engineering, or technical demo environments
  • Background in robotics, automation, machinery, machine tools, industrial systems, or mechatronics
  • Experience building or scaling a technical facility from the ground up
  • Experience supporting hardware/software integration, machine testing, or sensor-based systems
  • Strong ability to translate engineering goals into practical test setups and operating workflows
  • Startup or scale-up experience where speed, ownership, and ambiguity are part of the job
  • Proven ability to lead teams, vendors, and technical projects without creating unnecessary bureaucracy
  • Experience in aerospace, automotive, medical devices, advanced manufacturing, or precision engineering

Why This Role Matters

4MP’s technology cannot be built through software alone.

We need a facility, machines, measurement systems, testing workflows, demo capability, and fast feedback loops. This role creates the environment where the company can prove, improve, and scale its technology.

Your work will directly affect how fast we test, how clearly we demonstrate value, how reliably we validate progress, and how effectively the engineering team can execute.

Why Join Now

This is the phase where the foundation is built.

You will help establish 4MP’s first operational home, shape how the company tests and demonstrates its technology, and build the operational engine behind autonomous manufacturing.

Joining now means having a foundational voice in how 4MP builds, validates, and scales a category-defining company from the ground up.
