Company Description Our client is an Australian owned boutique manufacturer and maintainer of heavy haulage equipment. Based in the eastern suburbs of Perth, it provides custom build semi-trailers , dollies and associated equipment to a wide variety of customers across the entire logistics sector.
Role Description
We are seeking an experienced Design & Drafting Engineer to support the design and development of heavy vehicle bodies and transport equipment. This role is primarily office-based and focused on engineering design, drafting, compliance, and technical documentation rather than project management or customer-facing activities.
The role is a full-time (with options for flexible work hours), on-site position based in Midland, WA. In this role, the team member prepares detailed technical drawings and models for mechanical and automotive components, systems, and assemblies in line with engineering specifications and industry standards. Day-to-day tasks include developing and revising CAD drawings, interpreting engineering requirements, collaborating with fabrication specialists and production management, and ensuring documentation accuracy and completeness. The role also involves coordinating with manufacturing and workshop teams to support effective production, maintaining drawing records, and contributing to continual improvement of drafting processes and templates.

Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain 2D and 3D engineering drawings and manufacturing documentation.
- Develop design solutions for new builds, modifications, and refurbishment projects.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable Australian Design Rules (ADR), industry standards, and customer specifications.
- Review and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and specifications.
- Liaise with workshop personnel to ensure designs are practical, manufacturable, and fit for purpose.
- Coordinate external drafting and engineering resources when required.
- Maintain engineering records, revision control, and technical documentation.
About You
Candidates should possess:
- strong skills in Technical Drawing and general Drawing for mechanical and automotive applications.
- solid experience in Engineering Drawings, including interpreting specifications and creating detailed component and assembly documentation.
- A comprehensive knowledge of Australian Design Rules (ADR) and VSB6 requirements.
- Proficiency in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) tools commonly used in mechanical and automotive design (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar).
- Relevant qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Drafting, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy in documentation, and ability to work to deadlines in a project-driven environment.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams, including engineers, technicians, and project managers.
- Knowledge of applicable standards, tolerances, and manufacturing processes for mechanical and automotive components is highly beneficial.
