Position Overview

The Corporate Relationship Manager is responsible for developing and executing strategies to strengthen the Company's relationship with government agencies, regulatory authorities, and industry stakeholders in Malaysia. This role ensures compliance with government regulations, supports CKD/CBU operations, manages regulatory projects, secures tax incentives and duty exemptions, and provides strategic guidance to support the Company's business objectives and long-term growth.

Key Responsibilities

Government Relations & Strategic Engagement

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with government ministries, regulatory agencies, industry associations, and strategic stakeholders including MITI, MIDA, Customs, JPJ, SIRIM, and other relevant authorities
  • Act as the Company's primary liaison with government agencies on regulatory, compliance, and policy matters
  • Represent the Company in meetings, discussions, and industry engagements to promote and protect the Company's interests

Government Relations & Regulatory Compliance

  • Monitor, interpret, and communicate changes in government regulations, policies, and legislation affecting the automotive industry
  • Ensure the Company's compliance with all applicable Malaysian regulatory requirements relating to automotive operations, imports, manufacturing, taxation, and trade
  • Develop and implement internal policies and procedures to ensure ongoing regulatory compliance

Policy Development & Implementation

  • Conduct research and analysis on government policies and legislative developments.
  • Provide strategic recommendations to Management regarding regulatory changes and their impact on business operations.
  • Develop and implement policies to support compliance and operational excellence.

Tax Incentives & Duty Exemption

  • Manage applications, renewals, and reporting for tax incentives, import duty exemptions, and government incentive programmes with agencies such as MIDA, MITI, and Royal Malaysian Customs
  • Coordinate with relevant internal departments to ensure compliance with incentive requirements and reporting obligations.

CKD/CBU Operations & Automotive Regulatory Framework

  • Support regulatory matters relating to CKD and CBU vehicle operations.
  • Ensure compliance with automotive regulations governing vehicle homologation, importation, localization, and manufacturing requirements.
  • Coordinate with internal departments to facilitate regulatory approvals and documentation.

Customs & Trade Regulations

  • Oversee compliance with Customs regulations relating to import and export activities, Licensed Manufacturing Warehouse (LMW), Free Zone (FZ), and other applicable trade requirements.
  • Liaise with Customs authorities and logistics partners to facilitate smooth customs clearance and regulatory compliance.

Project Management

  • Lead and coordinate regulatory and cross-functional projects involving government agencies and internal stakeholders.
  • Manage project timelines, documentation, risk assessments, and reporting to ensure successful implementation

Stakeholder Engagement & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with internal departments including Sales, After Sales, Finance, Supply Chain, Logistics, Manufacturing, Legal, and Compliance to ensure alignment on regulatory initiatives.
  • Collaborate with external stakeholders and industry associations to advocate common industry interests and support business objectives.

Supply Chain Coordination & Warehouse Operations

  • Coordinate with Supply Chain and Warehouse teams to ensure regulatory compliance in logistics, inventory movement, importation, and distribution activities.
  • Support operational improvements relating to warehouse and trade compliance.

Data Analysis & ; Reporting

  • Prepare regulatory reports, management presentations, compliance documentation, and government submissions.
  • Analyse regulatory data and industry developments to support strategic decision-making
  • Maintain accurate documentation and records for audits and government inspections.

Process Improvement & Operational Efficiency

  • Identify opportunities to improve regulatory processes, compliance systems, and operational efficiency.
  • Recommend and implement best practices to enhance governance and reduce regulatory risks.

Crisis Management

  • Manage government relations during crises, ensuring timely communication with relevant authorities while mitigating business and reputational risks.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Law, Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, International Trade, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in Government Relations, Regulatory Affairs, Trade Compliance, Customs, or Public Affairs within the automotive OEM industry.
  • Strong knowledge of Malaysia's government policies, automotive regulatory framework, CKD/CBU operations, Customs regulations, import/export procedures, LMW, Free Zone operations, and trade compliance
  • Experience in managing government incentives, tax exemptions, and duty exemption applications with agencies such as MITI, MIDA, and Royal Malaysian Customs.
  • Proven experience in government stakeholder management, strategic engagement, and negotiation.
  • Strong project management skills with experience leading cross-functional regulatory projects.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building abilities.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and ethical standards.
