Role
The Assistant Athletic Director provides leadership and administrative support across critical areas of the Athletics Department, with responsibilities in compliance, communications, business operations, sport oversight, and internal and external relations.
Major Duties And Responsibilities
Compliance Administration: Ensure institutional adherence to NJCAA, Region XIX, and GSAC legislation by managing all eligibility processes, playing and practice season documentation, recruiting oversight, and National Letter of Intent administration. Lead comprehensive compliance operations, including violation reporting, rules interpretations, annual education for coaches, staff, and student athletes, and updates to departmental practices to reflect legislative changes. Coordinate federal and institutional reporting requirements such as EADA, Title IX data collection, and internal compliance audits to support transparency, equity, and regulatory accountability.
Communications, Sports Information, and Brand Visibility: Lead all athletics communications functions, including content strategy, media relations, website updates, and adherence to branding standards. Produce high quality digital, social, and multimedia content while coordinating statistical reporting, livestreaming, and home event coverage for SCC Mighty Oaks. Report contest results to opponents, GSAC, Region XIX, and the NJCAA, ensuring accuracy and timely dissemination across platforms.
Business Operations and Administrative Support: Support departmental business operations by coordinating purchasing, travel logistics, vendor management, and contributing to budget tracking. Develop and maintain standard operating procedures for travel, equipment management, and event operations. Collaborate with Finance, HR, Student Services, and Facilities to ensure efficient administrative workflows.
Sport Program Oversight: Provide administrative leadership for assigned varsity programs, including regular check ins with coaches and oversight of program needs. Support recruiting, retention, and student athlete development initiatives to strengthen program success. Assist with onboarding new coaches and ensuring alignment with departmental expectations and policies.
Event Management and Facilities Coordination: Serve as gameday administrator for assigned sports. Coordinate scheduling of athletics facilities. Work with facilities staff and vendors to ensure maintenance and operational readiness. Supervise student workers and gameday staff.
Student Athlete Support and Success Initiatives: Help coordinate student athlete orientation, leadership programs, and ongoing engagement initiatives. Act as a liaison to faculty, advisors, and Student Services to support academic success and student athlete well being. Maintain master rosters and track key student athlete data including aid, applications, and enrollment. Other duties as assigned
Knowledge and Skills
Experience
Five years of progressively responsible experience in collegiate athletics with competency in compliance, communications, and/or operations.
Education
Master’s Degree required.
Interpersonal Skills
Personal initiative, dependability, self discipline, self confidence, and the ability to overcome obstacles and focus energy. Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate with a variety of constituencies, including experience with supervisory skills. Patience and interpersonal skills to be able to work effectively with college student athletes.
Technical Skills
Working knowledge of current and emerging computer hardware and software, including Microsoft Office products. Experience in both short and long range
planning, and the ability to focus on administrative details.
Other Skills
Working knowledge of NJCAA rules and regulations.
Physical Requirements
The work is not sedentary. There will be walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items, driving an automobile, etc. Valid driver’s license required. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
Work Environment
Generally, regular exposure to favorable conditions such as those found in a normal office, and occasional exposure to outdoors environments.
